New to LOD

[:1]Hello fellow D2 fans, after nearly a since I quit classic D2 I've decided to try out LOD.

I have some basic questions, and if you have an answer I'd appreciate it.

1. Is there a forum search function? I looked around but I didn't see one

2. US West or US East? I live in California, does this mean lag will be a problem if I choose to play in US East? Which realm has higher population and activity? Basically, even though US West is closer, I don't want to play there if it's deserted or if US East is a much better place.

3. Does Blizzard have a policy against muling? I remember back in the day when I quit that muling was a somewhat questionable activity, how about now?

4. Are there still many real players left and if so how do I find them? When I first popped in and started poking around I noticed the huge number of bots both in the chat channels and in games, spamming their adverts. How do I go about finding a game that has actual real players in it? Also, is there a way to mute the bots so that my screen isn't filled with spam?

Thanks, hope to see you guys in game.|||Welcome to the forums. Hope you enjoy your stay.

Look on the ribbon just below the forum names. It should be the 7th item from the left.

All else fails here is a link:

Sorry I do not play on b.net, but either should be fine if you have decent ping results.

There is no policy against it, but if you self-mule and get temp-banned for making too many games too quickly or enter and leaving games too fast or you receive the dreaded 'realm down' message. They will not care if you loose your items as this type of muling is unsupported.

If you can get a trusted friend to help it is the best way to mule. If that fails create a passworded game and stay in the game for a few minutes (I believe it is 5min or more) then slowly leave and come back with the same character to see if the game is going to stay active with no one in it. Drop some gold; then, not too quickly, exit and re-enter with a new character. See if the gold is still there. Try that a few times until you get the hang of it. Then try it with a more valuable piece and move your way up in value until you are sure of your abilities to self-mule. This is what I'd do if I were to begin play on b.net Good luck.

Not sure about a mute button, but there are commands you can enter that might help, unfortunately I do not have a list and google turned up zilch for me, sorry.

For players to play with there is always the Player Match-up forum:

http://diablo.incgamers.com/forums/f...splay.php?f=31|||I'm pretty sure East has more people by a noticeable margin. I play on East, and, sure things are a lot slower than they were few years ago, but if you're patient, you'll find the thing you were looking for.

The proliferation of Bots is where D2 Realms' decadence really shows. I can't list every Bot here, but soon, you'll get a feel for determining whether or not a game or a character is a Bot. Just avoid the Bot games, and look for the games with real people in them that offer what you were looking for. They're few compared to the Bot games, but they are there. If a Bot enters and is about to spam, squelch him in the party screen as soon as you see one join. Like I said, you'll pretty soon be able to tell right away when a spambot joins.|||thanks for the info!|||Quote:

Play in passworded games.

If you accidentally join a public channel and get added to the spambot's whisper lists, /dnd will stop you from receiving whispers (they'll stop trying to spam you after a few hours usually and you can /dnd again to start accepting whispers).|||so rare to see Lod-newcomer in 2011! way to go
