[:1]Hello, I got a Etheral fortitude (28/3.5k def or so). I want to use it on a another character but merc, but how you make etheral items not break?
I tough you could throw inn the etheral fortitude + Zod rune, click the cube and it gets indestructible state? if it does, does it keep its etheral multipliers, or what happens.
Just wish the armor wasent Etheral right now :) So any help ? Tried google cube recipes with Zod, but nothing.|||There was a Zod bug in some patch (can't remember which one). Right now the only way not to break it is indeed to use it on a merc|||Ok thanks... I just bought a low Fortitude then. It might be my last character before Diablo3, so went like "wtf... 5 hrs, lets do this". Hope I wont regret that to much :P My higheste deal Ive done.
non-ladder europe is overpriced ^^ And yes I read about the Zod bud, but didnt clearly understand it. And WOW etheral bugged items should be loads worth then... Wondor what I could sell my 3.5k 28 forti if it had that.. hehe.

Is there a bragging "forum"?
[:1]Ive heard about it, that we have one on this forum!
For bragging about very nice finds.. Am I correct? If so, where is it? :)
Peace|||See the stickies in the statisticcs forum, as well as the "Show your best drop" thread in the community forum.|||The Single Player forum always has a current item find thread as well, for those who prefer offline play. (like me)|||Really? I doubt very much.|||Quote:

Read current posts man! Still doubt!? eh? :/|||I thought it was the Paladin forum? They all seem to be braggers!
But yes, if it is items, then the SPF has an item find thread. If just general progress, I would suppose the appropreate forum would work.

Starting again after a few years
[:1]Hi guys! Wanted to try playing d2 again after some years and was wondering if playing as a sorc is good for a new character
Also, would like to know if there are benefits in non-ladder characters; also would like to play TCP/IP with you guys or something like that (Though I dunno if there's anyone on Gateway Asia?)
Thanks, would love to hear your replies|||Welcome! A sorc is a very good first character - the meteorb build is popular, with Fie Ball and Frozen Orb doing most of the killing. If you don't mind having to teleport past Cold Immunes, a Blizzard sorc can do very well running Mephisto and the Ancient Tunnels for items.
I prefer to play Single Player myself, and have multi-played via TCP/IP many times. There is an MP sub-forum in the Single Player Forum devoted to setting up this type of game.
Best of luck to you!|||Great! Now at least I know what to build of my sorcy after numerous browsing through threads and guides|||I love Fie ballers!
Even though, I just respected my light soso to a metorb, and am dissapointed
.
If you are playing by yourself, play SP (If you're wanting to tcp/ip, I guess you are).
soso's are great starters. Any of them will work, honestly. Since you already decided what you'd make, have fun with it!

Several questions
[:1]Greetings,
New to the boards and relatively new to D2. Though I've had the game and played it on and off since launch, however I've really begun to sink my teeth into it now. That being said I have a few questions, some general, some class/build specific. I apologize in advance for the length of this post and all the questions. I also play a WW Barb that is 62 at the time of this posting if that impacts certain answers.
Edit: Any gameplay related questions are asked with PvE/PvM in mind.
I've seen resist on items listed in percent and just as a number. Example: Resist Poison +15 and Resist Poison +15%.
-Which is better exactly, what's the difference and (if it works like I think it does) do percent resists help more as you make up deficits in NM and Hell?
-Is there recommend level ranges for when to advance to the next difficulty vs when to farm? Because the game is older I've seen various answers to this and I'm not sure what's even current. I'm currently 62 and in Act V of Nightmare (on Bnet), and I think I'm about right where I should be.
-I've found that the bosses for quests have been almost trivial in difficulty in NM thus far (diablo was a joke). But the random boss mobs out in the world can be nasty. Is that normal?
The character I'm playing is a WW Barb, and I've essentially been following the Diablo wiki and one or two other solid guides. But I'm still wondering about a few things.
-DW or 2h for weapon choice? The wiki says utilize a 2h to maximize the build...but it says use a Zerker axe, which I gathered was a 1h weapon.
-If you do DW do you shoot for (idealy) 2 Breath of the Dying RW? Or do you use two different RWs that compliment eachother?
-If you follow the build in the wiki, you finish the essentials around 81. It recommends putting extra points in Iron Skin or Natural Resistance. Would it be wise to say..not level up shout as far right away and up Natural Resistance instead in order to shed resist gear?
-I recently read that 1.13 made the Oblivion Knights (I think they're called) no longer cast Iron Maiden. If this is accurate, is the point invested in Berserk still worth while?
-Lastly, I read that for unique items to drop, their non unique counterparts must be able to drop in that area/difficulty. Is this accurate? If so, is it possible to farm for Barb essentials like Arreat's Face in NM?
Thanks in advance for those who sifted through all that to answer questions.|||Quote:

holy crap, that's a lot...
some items give + resists meaning that they increase the resist limit of 75 up to max of 95%. Some just give resists like for instance you already have 30 base resists and an item gives 50% resists, which gives you max of 75% res.
around lvl 48 is good to go to nm, and 75 is good for hell.
some hell mobs with extra fast and strong with lightnign enchant are dangerous.
for any melee char including your barb, grief runeword and shield or grief and 2nd weapon are good.
only put 1 point into iron skin and nat resist because returns after 1 pt are really low, just use +skills items. shout pve is 1 pt, pvp shout either 1 or max.
berserk is for phys immunes.
not sure of the math involved, but arreats can drop in nm (90% sure)|||Nightmare Diablo has a 1:734 chance of dropping Arreat's Face.

you went right to the point -_- grrrr lol|||LOL! "Brevity is the soul of wit."|||About iron maiden - Thats gone.
About natural resistance- I have lvl 3-4 in that with my barb. Gives ~47@ with +skills.
I have found out that grief+botd works the best for a ww barb. Grief in mainhand. Slot above the gloves. Either use phaseblades or berserker axes.
About berserk- get 1 point only. It will trash physical immunes.
Peace|||i should have taken a shortcut like everyone else >.>|||I've seen resist on items listed in percent and just as a number. Example: Resist Poison +15 and Resist Poison +15%.
-> To my knowledge, allres bonuses aren't shown with a percent sign, unlike bonuses to single resists, but that's just a typo, it's both the same type of bonus.
-Which is better exactly, what's the difference and (if it works like I think it does) do percent resists help more as you make up deficits in NM and Hell?
-> In nightmare, you simply receive a -30% penalty to resists and in hell it's -100% (to be adjusted by the quest rewards for rescuing Anya), but the bonuses from skills and equipment themselves aren't affected.
-Is there recommend level ranges for when to advance to the next difficulty vs when to farm? Because the game is older I've seen various answers to this and I'm not sure what's even current. I'm currently 62 and in Act V of Nightmare (on Bnet), and I think I'm about right where I should be.
-> That depends a lot on your build and your equipment. If you can kill the monsters without too many problems, all is fine with respect to what your character is capable of. However, if you don't gain further levels while doing that, you should improve your equipment or do something about your build.
-I've found that the bosses for quests have been almost trivial in difficulty in NM thus far (diablo was a joke). But the random boss mobs out in the world can be nasty. Is that normal?
-> Again, that depends on your build and your equipment. Act bosses might die quickly in melee if you have a decent chance to deal crushing blows, in particular when using an attack which always hits. A paladin with the Black runeword in a flail and a few potions can kill every act boss or UT boss in 30 seconds, by using his 1 point investment in smite (which is a prereq for holy shield and a L1 skill).
-> I would use a two-hander, as two weapons are more expensive than one and a character with that much life doesn't need blocking in PvM. If it's BotD, either a colossus blade or a great poleaxe (which is polearm class BTW, not an axe). IIRC, no 6 socket two-handed axe or mace is fast enough to reach the final WW speed breakpoint with BotD and even though there's a spear which is as good as a GPA, it has higher dex reqs which is a bit pointless if no shield is worn.
In PvP, a shield is mandatory, for blocking and as a carrier of further bonuses. In that case, use a BA.
-If you do DW do you shoot for (idealy) 2 Breath of the Dying RW? Or do you use two different RWs that compliment eachother?
When dual-wielding, I suggest to use two different weapons, like a BotD or Grief BA and a Beast BA. the problem is that both weapons have to be quick enough, else they will slow down WW speed. Therefore I don't dual-wield when using WW, it's better to be used when using frenzy which only needs a quick weapon in the main hand while IAS is irrelevant in the off hand where only the base speed matters.
However, my WW barbs are typically wearing the full IK set while the others are usually frenzy barbs, so I'm not really an expert about that topic.
-If you follow the build in the wiki, you finish the essentials around 81. It recommends putting extra points in Iron Skin or Natural Resistance. Would it be wise to say..not level up shout as far right away and up Natural Resistance instead in order to shed resist gear?
One point in natural resists is enough. You will also get a few skill bonuses and the additional bonuses get less with further investments, so it's not worth it. Iron skin scales up in a linear fashion, by 10% per skill level. After having maxed WW, a weapon mastery and BO and having made the usual 1 point investments, I put remaining points into iron skin.
-I recently read that 1.13 made the Oblivion Knights (I think they're called) no longer cast Iron Maiden. If this is accurate, is the point invested in Berserk still worth while?
Definitely! There are lots of physical immune monsters as well.
-Lastly, I read that for unique items to drop, their non unique counterparts must be able to drop in that area/difficulty. Is this accurate?
-> It's one of the prerequirements, but the area/monster level must also be at least match the quality level of the unique. For example, Pindleskin can drop any base item and his monster level is 86. That means he cannot drop an Arachnid Mesh (qlvl 87), even though the base item itself (spiderweb sash) is one of the lowliest elite items.
If so, is it possible to farm for Barb essentials like Arreat's Face in NM?
-> Mostly yes. You just won't be able to find things like the full IK set or a decent melee weapon for hell mode.|||Wow, thanks to everyone who took the time to read that and respond. This info is really helpful.
Glad I followed the advice on here already (not having berserk would have hurt several times today).|||ur welcom, do i get cookies?

Coming back to D2, unanswered questions.
[:1]Hi all, Id like to introduce myself. I have played D2 off and on for several years, all on US East NonLadder. I have lurked here for a little while since deciding to start D2 back up, I have ordered it from amazon, just waiting for my LoD cdkey to come in :shakefist:. I tend to write long posts that are over worded so if you can, bear with me... if not I am sorry.
Mostly I have played the Druid, I dont know why... maybe it is because it seems slightly underpowered, maybe it is because there arent that many around, whatever it is im straying from my past and maybe restarting with a Pally or Barb first for MF. Regardless, I have made several 90+ druids capable of soloing 8player hell. So I know my way around PLAYING D2 I just dont really know that much about formulas and certain stats.
Ive seen a lot of uproar about the stats: FCR, FHR, and IAS. To my knowledge I utilized little to none of these and didnt really 'notice'. Thats not to say I didnt die because I didnt have them, I just didnt know why I was dying. And whats up with max block, or lack there-of?
Also, I have never played ladder. For some reason whenever I created a character I just unclicked the ladder box. Is there any advantage of playing ladder besides a more fair economy(pricier more like it), better? items(runewords, do any other godly items only drop in Ladder?). Are there any other challenges or benefits of Ladder? Like different monster formula or something?
Thanks for any and all info, I hope to see some of yall on USeast ladder when(if) my LOD comes hah.|||Mostly the advantage to ladder is increased rune drop rates and the availability of nice runewords. Not just high level runewords, easily accessible runewords like spirit and insight are amazing and anybody can make them.
FCR, FHR, IAS, read: http://diablo2.diablowiki.net/Breakpoints
Max block is important on melee characters that use a shield. Some casters go max block too, but melee shield users (especially pallys) always go for max block. It's a 75% chance to avoid any physical attack (at the cost of a short blocking animation). A paladin with holy shield can max block without much dex investment, and has a very fast blocking animation, making it a no-brainer.
Obviously you should play whatever class floats your boat. When you decide for sure check out the class forums here and some of the stickied build guides (at least, those for which the link isn't broken). Make sure to check in the guide whether it is a build that requires certain gear or it works with any gear, since you won't have access to much on your first character.|||Great site, explains all the breakpoints in an easy to read table. Thanks again.
One more thing that has always bothered me, what is the deal with the special avatars at the bottom of the lobby in D2? Are the people with izual, starcraft toons, etc moderators?|||I believe this will help.

Diablo 2 in OSX Lion
[:1]I had D2 running on a Windows machine and upgraded to a Mac, which I then put Lion on. This got rid of Rosetta and any possibility of playing PPC software.... which included D2.
(I used digital download not CD install)
Has anyone found a way of playing D2 on a Mac with OSX Lion?
