Melee buid character suggestions

I am pretty new with diablo and the best character I have is a blizzard sorc. After playing her for a bit I want to try one of the melee builds. So rather than running away from monster my character would jump into the middle of them and slaughter them face to face.

What are the good builds to try this for the first time? What equipment would I need, considering I am still pretty poor?

I am thinking of doing a zeal paladin, or frenzy barbarian but are there other builds I am forgetting? Which one do you think is more fun?|||Jumping in the middle of enemies? It's you funereal. Poke around Barbarian, Paladin & Druid forums for guides.|||Quote:

No one's stopping you from looking in the strategy forums. There are guides for most builds. You could also peruse the SPF Mat/Pat/Guard thread; they aren't exactly guides, but many have very useful information and many use low-mid gear (many guides only give advice on high end gear). In that thread, links with an asterisk (*) are "untwinked', meaning that only items found by that character were used, which may be helpful for someone with little item wealth.

The only problem with melee characters that do physical damage is that they are usually item dependent.

A physical damage zealot needs (NEEDS) a good weapon to be very effective. But, there are other options; a frost zealot (4 point zeal, max Holy Freeze and Resist Cold) doesn't need a big damage weapon. You might start out as a Holy Shock Zealot, and then respec to physical damage if you find a good weapon. The only problem with elemental zealots is that they have trouble with immunes monsters later on unless you have a high damage weapon or spend points in two elemental auras.|||I was recently new to the game, and for purely aesthetic reasons (i.e., I dig shapeshifting characters) I tried a "Town Dump Werebear" as my first build. It's a Werebear/Summoner hybrid. Gear was not all that bad, I'm told -- a friend set me up with the IK armor/maul and Jalal's Mane I needed, and I filled in most of the rest with stuff I found. It did just fine through Normal solo, and I did NM solo or with one similar-leveled friend without much grief.

I did clump through Act I of Hell in my upper 60s, but that was painful -- once I got to don all the IK stuff at 76, it got MUCH easier.|||I'm trying out a frenzy barb atm...seems to be working out pretty well, but just need a couple good runeword weps.|||Oath is rather cheap for a frenzy barb, maybe together with Crescent Moon or another Oath weapon. However, there are cheaper alternatives.

The cheapest pure melee character for hell mode is probably a barb with the Immortal King set. The armor still costs about Ist on ladder Europe, but the other parts can be bought for pgems. Just ensure that the weapon has 40% crushing blow and that the helm doesn't have a bad bonus on magic find before putting anything of value into the sockets.

Your werebear won't be able to wear the whole IK set. Only a barbarian can put on the helm.|||Quote:

I know that. It's still a nice cheapish setup -- even without the helm, the maul has all the various flavors of damage that lets you get around PI, and generally nice resistances and other goodies.

Once I got to use the maul at 76, Hell became far, far simpler.|||IK is so Fun (Hal's Concentrate Build and add your spin) and you can MF everyone else stuff.

Party Friendly cry's etc.
