Item dependency?

So I started my first ladder char (ever) as a zealot paladin. I made it for a big part solo to act II in nightmare (got rushed to act 4 now), but my gear is really not up to date and it's really hard because it takes ages to kill mobs.

I was thinking about rerolling a class with less item dependency so I could do some boss running for my other chars. I've read that sorc is a great boss runner while necro is safe but slow. Most guides advise a 1 point in warmth feven while building a sorc, but this seems awefully slow to me untill you get alot of +skill items. (I'm level 50 with pala and i have 1 item which adds + skills)

Thing is I'm not looking for super speed, but for solid speed once I get a decent level. Is a summon necro a decent boss killer or do the summons get massacred by bosses? Which class is the least item dependant?

Any help would be appreciated.|||Sorc is the #1 pick for boss running. Summoning necro is safer than sorc, but will run bosses a lot slower because of no teleport.

Now that you have respec, you can allways invest more points into warmth early in the game untill your mana pool increases with level or you get insight on your mercenary.|||In my honest opinion, spec your character into a hammerdin, farm pgms (flawlesses in late nightmare and cube them) until your eyes bleed (enough for enigma, I haven't played ladder #7 but I guess enigma goes for 25ists still.), and sell those pgms in bundles of 40 vs ist. That said, you'd need 1000 pgms or 3000 flawlesses.

After that it's whatever you want.

Character name followed by "@"

I saw some people on a channel, where their (diablo) characters had the @ symbol after the name (e.g. BLABLABA@). How is it done?

I think it has something to do with servers, but IM not sure.

Somehow I missed your post.

That's what I mean. The @ symbol. I didnt know it was "@Europe" (maybe because the char names I saw were just long). I think it can be reproduced somehow, but I dont know how. Any ideas? I have a char with a 3 sign name for tests.

D2 installed/plays perfect LOD wont install

Hey, ive been a fan of D2 for a long time. I have it installed perfectly fine on a desktop and a lap top. both with XP but i am trying to install it on my laptop which unfortunatly has Vista.

D2 installed fine with out changing compatibility but when i went to isntall LOD it gets to d2exp.mpg on the install and then asks for the expansion disk which is already in the drive. i opened it then put it back in, it spins up then stops and the same message pops up. I disabled UAC because that kept popping up. i also installed 1.13c for D2 hoping that might help the install of LOD. not sure what else to do besides reinstalling D2 and trying again, i cant find anything else for this situation. and i know people play this on Vista with little to no problems. i also tired the digital download through the blizzard website. it says my cd key is invalid. thank you|||Register your CD-keys @Battle.net (www.battle.net , make an account if you do not already have one), download the installer and install the game from it.|||yes i already tried it. i registered along time ago and it wouldnt download because it said my cd key is invalid.i know its not because its the same key i used on my 2 other computers|||the disc might be damaged or dirty

If you have a previous install, OS does not matter, you can just copy the folder from one computer to the other. Since 1.12a the CD does not need to be in the drive any more, this enables you to copy the folder and run it as if it were installed on the computer. Just copy it to your Program Files (x86) folder if you have 64bit vista and Program Files if its 32bit vista.

Note this works on single player, but should work on b.net as well. I hope. Good luck trying to clean the disc if it does not.|||thanks for the replies. the disk is clean also it is almost brand new. i got it to work i uninstalled everything and reinstalled it then DLED it from bnet and it worked. i appreciate all your replies. Necro questions

Ok i know this has probably been in here before but i've got a necro going atm summoner/bone and i've made hell but cant go any further cause my gear doesnt allow me to survive. I'm wondering what gear you'd suggest i use and an average trade price for said items be it in Pgems or whatever else is used for trading nowdays.|||Hey welcome to the forum. Feel free to post on other topics, reply to others, and make your own topics. We are more than happy to see newcomers on the forum.

As for the necro, you just need to get items with +skills for more effective summons. As todays guides suggest to max out corpse explosion with skeles maxed out that would be the way to go. Best luck with your summoner.|||You should look through the guides in the Necro forum. Notably, Nightfish's Skelliemancer guide is very good.

As for finding items, you can run NM Meph repeatedly to get some decent items that will help you survive in hell. You can also clear out the later areas of NM repeatedly to get items. Keep an eye out for runes, charms, and wands/circlets/necro shields. The last few types can get +necro or + summon skills affixes.|||Well, how do you get killed? Swarmed by meleers, or shot by ranged attackers? How much life do you have?

In the wide open areas in Act I, it�s pretty easy to avoid getting hit at all. Most of the time, a Summon/Bone Necromancer shouldn�t be killed even if he�s naked.

A decently geared Mercenary can be a great help stopping monsters from getting to you.

Curses can also be a great help to take the heat off you. Dim Vision blinds monsters, Terror scares them off, Confuse/Attract makes them attack other monsters.|||I'm fairly new to Diablo myself and thought I'd give a Necromancer a try after this latest reset. I've only played a couple of Amazons in the past, and let me tell you, a Necro is much, much easier once you get going. I just finished soloing Hell this weekend.

Here's a few things I've discovered in my travels:

1) White is an awesome and cheap rune word. Take a decent 2-socketed wand add a Dol and Io and you'll have yourself some crazy +skills. I found a 2-socket wand in Normal Act 1 and added the White runeword in Normal Act 5 and I still haven't found anything better. Since you shouldn't be meleeing anything (you're not meleeing anything, right?) looking for good +skills is way more important than damage on the wand. If you don't have Dol and Io, running Countess and should get you them eventually.

2) Try to get a 4 socketed polearm for your Merc and create the Insight rune word. Insight isn't the best of the best Merc rune word, but it's, again, pretty cheap. The mana restoration aura will let you spam Corpse Explosion like crazy. If you can get something with Crushing Blow for your Merc it'll be a huge help. I beat Baal without it, but it was a LONG fight.

3) Amplify damage on regular enemies, Decrepify on big bosses.

4) Bone Armor is your friend, but only for 1 point. The synergies add more damage absorption than points in the actual skill (that always struck me as weird). Anyway, 1 point in Bone Armor and 20 in Bone Wall.|||So i've had summon nerco myself for a week now(just started ladder) and here are a few tips for you:

1)You are going to rely heavily on mercenary, because skellies without +skills won't kill very fast, so buff him up as fast as you can.

Insight for a weapon, another alternative is Obedience, for armor -Smoke is nice and cheap, another a bit expensive one is Duress, i highly recommend that one, but remember do make your runewords(when using more expensive runes) in ethereal items, because they dont need to be repaired on a mercenary and give dmg and def bonuses.

2)A summon necro is a painfully slow boss killer without teleport equipment or +skills. I farmed act1 pit(Tamoe Highlands) for 2-3days to get the runes for summon GCs and an Etheral polearm. Act1 Pit is a lvl 85 area in which EVERY item in the game can drop, so it's a must for Skellimancer, whose main power lays in clearing areas with skellis and CE, plus the monsters there are much weaker than in the later act area lvl 85 areas, not to mention the bosses.

Don't hope for extremely expensive drops too fast though, the pits are "in the long run" win for a character too weak to move on.



3)Best curses besides amp IMO:Confuse, Dim Vision(extremely useful against the archers and gloams), attract, decrepify(very good against act bosses or otherwise tough monsters,if your merc is weak). Consider maxing Dim vision, after u have skilled your core skills-gloams and ranged attackers are rendered useless with DV.



4) Use clay golem because he's like a mini decrepify-slows enemies down cosiderably. Atm On Diablo and Baal i use decrepify first, then after some blows i just use amp, because my skellies and merc are buffed up and clay golem has slowed them down. Revives and skeletal mages aren't as good as they seem. Melee revives will block your main killer(mercenary),which the skellies are already doing and their dmg output is mediocre. The only revives i might use are archers who do Physical dmg, because of the might aura of the act2 mercenary. Skeletal mages do elemental dmg, nuff said.

"Newbie" necromancers tends to waste their points on Revive. Its ****. ****. The monsters are retarded and uncontrollable and the damage is so low its crap.

I once summoned 44 act 4 Chaos Sanctuary soldiers and it took them 10 sec to kill a Fallen, seriously. Pick one at least to revive Maulers to solo uber bosses/act bosses cause of Crushing Blow. Youll find them in Durance of hate sometimes, or in the Hell in act 4.

Its really better than you think, cause you can spam it. (Talking about Bone armor here, and i think i put 7 points on it, it really saved my life thousands of time!)

And put some points in Fire Golem to pick up some bodies(my fav to revive skeletons is act 2 lost city)

You wont have problems with survival anymore, cause your skeletons is a meat shield, just stay back and watch Youtube or something, while right clicking bone armor every 2 sec.

Works fine on my hell boss/mobs/pit farming necromancer. :)|||Quote:

Im using a act 3 fire merc.

Its like a freaking 1 % chance to active that aura on my merc while he hits mobs, its really annoying and crap(i swear i could run full games on him without having the aura on), and i rather pick up act 3 merc just for coolness. Sure, this merc does lots of damage still and helps revive bodies, but im fine with my fire merc+ fire golem, and my merc doesnt run into pack of mobs instantly, i havent ressed him once this year.

I know im wrong here, everyone wants their best nowadays, what happened to the unique and cool stuffs? Everyone is like OOOOOOOOOOOOOOH cool look a freaking fire merc from act 3, finally a Baalrun thats different!

Stable 2 man team for new players?

I've played alot of diablo2 before, but now I'm starting over with my cousin. He has never played it and neither of us have a higher level char to help us gear up.

So I was wondering what would be a great combo of classes/builds to start with?

I currently have a paladin and he has a sorceress, my main concern is that I will need really good gear as a paladin once we get to hell difficulty since I also intend to solo from time to time.

Wouldn't a summoning necro be a way better choice? (though I've heard it can become boring very fast).

Thanks in advance!|||A summoning necro is really good. Remember, if you get bored you can respecc to pick other skills.

I would really suggest you to pick up a necro instead, using skeletons as a wall and building bone walls while your sorceress friend bombs them all.

Your paladin can do fine, just pick defensive talents and get max block/use a 3/4 socketed shield and gem Sol on them for reduced damage taken, till you get your gear.

But sorceress is kinda meh. Youll fight lots of immune monsters.

Maybe he could... start a necromancer for poison and bone skills and life tap?=D

Necromancer is like the best support class for team play.

Hope it helped you out, i dont think so... keep it for yourself =D|||A paladin will be fine. If you are willing to do some Nightmare Countess runs, you will be able to make a decent weapon from runes. If you run NM Mephisto a couple hundred times, you'll get a nice pile of items (good for both characters) and you stand a good chance of landing a decent weapon.

As sumsum pointed out, you can always respec to a different build. You might do well with a Fist of the Heavens pally since they also use Conviction which will help the sorc.

Remember that with Holy Shield, paladins have no trouble reaching 75% blocking and fairly high amounts of defense, so you shouldn't have too much trouble playing the tank for your team. As I said, you can always make a good weapon, but if you're still concerned about finding a good weapon, you can play an elemental zealot (zeal + holy freeze/shock) since they don't need a high damage weapon.

You might also consider playing a hammerdin (look for guides to these builds in the strategy forums), but then you'll be competing with the sorc for caster gear. I think it's a much better idea to play a non-caster character since your cousin is playing a caster. A barbarian could work very, very well given the crowd control skills that barbs get.|||I would keep the paladin and try an avenger (vengeance + conviction) it works wonders with any sorc (the sorc will plow through everything) and it is an enjoyable character to play when you want to solo (however you should shy away from it if you just want to see things blowing up in groups: this is a one-at-a-time killing type of character). With nightmare countess runs you should be able to make a decent runeword weapon that will take you far.|||Sorceress wouldn't be a bad pair for a summoner. Enchant those skeletons for crazy damage and static hostiles down!|||Frozen orb sorc + trab assasin

You have nice damage from two different elemets and in my opnion, those builds are actually quite fun (even though you probably will be unable to have whirlwind on your assasin). Please note that in few areas you will rely a bit on the assasins shadow to be a "tank" - aka someone who takes the damage while you stand behind him and shoot orbs/put traps. Although act 2 mercenaries will help too.

The problem with those classes is that in order to be good single player, one needs some gear (basically infinity polearm); and frozen orb is not THAT good in LOD.

But Id say that those two builds are the most fun to play in two players; also there is some little challenge as you arent that super strong due to absurd vitality (but this is still very easy since you can kill everything).

By palladin I assume you mean hammerdin; the argueably strongest PvM character in the game. They just kill everything with hammers, but arent that good for playing through the game, because the hammers simply have some blind spots and dont work that well in small passages. Although the concentration aura helps the mercenaries, so they do very well too.

Skellymancers are incredibly slow + they are simply useless in hell unless you have at least some +skill gear (not to mention that you need much more to make them effecive; unless you have a cooperating palladin). Combo of hammerdin + summoner can be ok, but in my opinion would be incredibly boring (I have did the whole game using a necro alone and it took a lot of time with good items).

Other alternatives would be wind druid + sorc.

The person who recommended avenger pala obviously has no clue about the game. This class is simply bad and all you can do is just support your caster friend; especially with 0 gear.

FYI, I've made quite a few guardians (that is, beating hell baal on hardcore) using avenger paladin/sorc and avenger paladin/summoner necro combo, always untwinked (that means using nothing but whatever gear we find). I wonder maybe if your different perspective on Skellymancers (arguably quite diff than the experiences of most of us), is due to the exact build/skill placement you used.

There are variations to the build, and while some of them might be catering to playstyle, there are many variations that specifically aim to gain crazy killing speed.

On the slow hand, you might have a Necro that relies solely on +skills, and uses his points on maxing Skeletons, maxing Mages, maxing Revives, and maxing a Golem /w synergies. In this case I would agree with you 100%... it might suit a certain player's playstyle, but it would be mind-numbingly slow. Safe and fun perhaps, but slow.

Now on the fast hand, you can tighten up your skill allocation, only max Skeletons and synergy, no Mages & no (or one point) Revives, 1pt Golem and then rely on +skills, just 1pt in Curses (and perhaps rely on a weapon swap for Decrep), and then have a pool of spare points you can use for killing speed. Max Corpse Explosion, and get Bone Spear pumped up as hard as the excess skill points will allow.

Pair this build with Insight on merc, and play very aggressively. Pound your Bone Spear non-stop to help get that first corpse, then refresh your Amp Dmg and clear the entire screen with CE. Necros that really know their class and know how to play, cannot be deemed in the same league as those Summoners we've all seen with 10 skellies 10 mages Revives everywhere and constantly trying to find more mobs to Revive (because the horrible skill doesn't last very long) and they sit there wondering why they've been sitting there trying to clear this section of a map for 15mins





Edit: I played around a little on a calc to see what kind of point allocation you would be looking for, on this very tight build. I put in maxed Skelle/Mastery/CE, 1pt in Clay/Golem Mastery/Resist/Bone Armor/Teeth/Amp Dmg/Bone Spear, and then maxed Bone Prison and Bone Wall. After plugging in 10 to plus skills, it ended up being a 730dmg absorb Bone Armor and an almost 450dmg pure magic Bone Spear that is completely spammable with Insight on merc, and your Bone Spear ends up being low mana cost by choosing to up it's synergies instead (because those synergies also help with Bone Armor so it's more efficient this way).

It's not perfect by any means, but between a Might Act2 Merc wielding let's say an Ethereal Thresher Insight (or CA,CV,GPA,GT) and spamming your Bone Spear, the first mob in a pack is gonna die very fast. And everyone that's ever truly played D2 for any length of time knows what a maxed CE cast on Amp'd mobs is gonna do to the screen in mere secs. BOOM.|||If you can get 10 plus skills after just starting untwinked (that other guy explained what it is), in a legit way; then good work. Tell me how to do it; does it mean you visit those shops?

Also, if you actually claim to know things about necros, you'd know that concentration from pride is probably worth more than those +10 skills.

After +25 skills and 3 auras (personally I use 2; dont like holding beast, but did some tests), skellymancers arent that slow actually. You dont even need to use any other aura than amp. But I dont expect someone starting to play the game to have such gear. This is ridiculous. So advise him a class that is actlually playable naked. Unless for you, definition of fun, is playing super-dave style (the guy who finished the game by having a naked amazon recast her valkirie). For me it is not fun.

Avenger is in general a terribly slow class; and untwinked it is probably one of the worst classes, as it requires some decent gear to make it semi playable. His friend would have all the fun. Some form of conviction zealot would be better.. but for zeal you need a good weapon to make it work.. and you dont have one when you start.

Being your friends merc (he kills all with orb, you just provide conviction), is not much fun IMO; also the char is terrible in general; without the friend he would have trouble doing much.|||All you really need for any melee class (assuming you'll be using a shield and not a two-handed weapon) is life leech (cathan's ring works in a pinch, if you tell me you cannot have such a ring drop before the end of normal while killing all mobs then something is wrong and if on bnet people will give it for free), some crushing blow (there are a number of cheap runeword weapons and regular unique items that have it) and enough attack rating to actually hit the monsters. Cannot be Frozen is a necessity in Hell mode for soloing, but as a team is something you can do without.

For avengers you really don't need the attack rating part because conviction drops enemies defenses to almost nothing so you need very little attack rating (pretty much whatever AR you get from vengeance works) so a crushing blow weapon works wonders. One could argue that conviction zealot would do the same job + use zeal to be a little faster killer, however they suffer with physical immune monsters as there is no guarantee that you won't run into one when soloing. I suppose a conviction zealot with 1-pt vengeance could work as well, I just like the prismatic damage. Sure you will not plow through everything like a hammerdin, but they are certainly not "slow" in my opinion.

As for necros, all you gotta do is max the regular warrior skele and max corpse explosion for the radius, 1 point on golem / each relevant curse and you're set. There is nothing slow about killing one guy with 10+ skeletons and then going kaboom on whole rooms with a couple clicks (amp+CE). See, corpse explosion is such an insane skill because it does not rely on any +skills to be effective, and fire immune monsters will die all the same because amp damage reduces their physical resistances into the negatives and CE deals physical + fire damage

But maybe the only thing missing here is your perception of what is a slow killer? so let me ask you, how fast is "FAST" killing for you? If you expect full geared sorceress-like speed where everything just die after .5 seconds spamming something, that is certainly not achievable going untwinked.

Trading conventions

In which difficulty do most people trade?

For example I'm trying to trade a bartucs and a Ko rune for pgs, where should I make a game?

I pressume nightmare is the best choice, or are there any trading conventions? Like people lurking normal games with mules etc?

help with my druid

Hello,

First of all I play on BattleNet.

I have a 76 Windy Druid and several other 30+ chars.

My problem is that I can't make it in Hell with none of them.

On my druid I have lvl 30-40 items. Most important a Smoke Splint Mail(157 def) and a Ancients Pledge Tower Shield which are my only source of resistence(75 res all in NM).

I have reached lvl 76 doing NM Baal runs solo and in public games.

I can't put any beter items on because I lose my res. I have runes only up to Hel rune. Also I cant change my gear with beter resist/def gear because of lack of runes. The only resist runeword I can make is Ancients Pledge.

So in Hell at lvl 76 I have 279 def, 30-40 resist, 926 life(oak sage buffed) and a lousy 1.8-1.9K dmg per Tornado. I get killed by Fallen...

Please help me! Am I missing something?

Considering this what can I do to improve my character to survive in Hell?

Also I have done tens of Nightmare Baal runs solo and the drops are very very bad. I get low lvl lunique/set items like sigon, arctic items lvl 20-30 .... and I am 76... (having ~100% MF)|||I generally don't solo Hell until I hit level 78 - 80 or so, although you're awfully close. You may want to go back and farm nightmare Mephisto for better items; he tends to drop more consistently than Baal. Also, save and cube up any gems you come across, as perfect gems can be quite useful for trading purposes. You may want to post your skill layout and full equipment readouts so we can make a more detailed analysis. Best of luck to you!

Edit: Oh yeah, defense means pretty much nothing in Hell unless you're able to get it to ridiculous levels well into the thousands.|||my skills are as follows:

20 tornado

20 cyclone armor

20 hurricane

15 twister (putting points in it as i lvl)

1 grizly (and all prereq)

5 oak sage


+2 skills hunters guide

also a +2 elemental amulet which i replaced in Hell with an +28 resist all amulet.

So I got 1862-2005 dmg on Tornado and 937-1041 cold dmg on Hurricane.

Also all Wraith are Phisical Immune and Cold Immune. And most other mobs are phis and cold. Almost all unique bosses are phis immune. Relying on my merc(lvl 77 as me) not really an option(it dies a lot):

Spirit Forged Link Mail - 2 sockets - Unique (1 perfect diamond by mistake thought it gave resist and 1 jewel 1-11 lightning dmg)

Plague Shell Coronet (rare 1-116 lightning dmg, resist+7)

Game Wont Start at All

ok so my Diablo II WILL NOT start at all after just starting the exe nothing pops up and no other programs will open up any suggestions?|||A fresh installation on Windows Vista/7 has to be started as administrator. Right-click the icon, select "run as admin". After the latest patch has been applied (e.g. by connecting to bnet), it will work normally.|||if it cant connect to bnet to patch, manual patches can be found here

Armageddon fletch

I've been playing d2 for quite some time, but SP only.

Recently i picked it up again and saw my old char having an armageddon fletch ammy. Now i've been reading around the intrawebs a bit and apperently seen loads of threads and discussion this ammy is hacked into the game or w/e (seeing it has req lvl of 41 which is impossible or something)

But still i have this ammy, i've never been online, i've never traded, i've never hero edited.... And i'm pretty sure i just found it. So what's the deal with that???

Nope, nobody. I've played over LAN with 1 friend of mine, and he's pretty much too stupid to backup save files.. So can't be that.

Might have found the ammy in pre v1.10 tho so might be related to that.

Sounds to me like it's hardcoded into the game somewhere

Indeed the chance of finding the exact same amulet is tiny but i don't think it's an entirely random ammy. I'm just saying the original armageddon fletch might actually be legit, but merely a certain bug drop from an early patch... (a failed tal rasha's?) which i'm sure hasn't only happened to me and the original fletch maker/FINDER.

Might actually post this on the SP forum cuz it's an interesting case!

PS. i'm stubborn|||Failed set items become magical items and even then, Tal's amulet has a very low qlvl and it can drop from late normal mode on, despite its level req, so if it's a failed set item, its ilvl would be so low that the Armageddon fletch affixes wouldn't be possible.

The original item has probably dropped normally, but it as been duped massively since then. I think you have played around with an item pack in the past, but you just don't remember or you forgot to remove it when cleaning up your characters. There's no reason to start an argument about it, as we have no means to convince each other.|||I've never had an item pack anyway but yeh no way to convince anybody otherwise, just thought it's quite an interesting phenomeno! Just wish i knew just how mythical this ammy was at the time it dropped, and took note of the circumstances...

Ah well, seems a lot of sceptics are on here and i don't blame em, just thought i'd share that it's actually not an impossible drop and probably a bugged drop in some early patch!|||^^

Unable to Connect from work

When I'm trying to connect to battle net from work, i'm getting the error:

it's a university, so i don't know about the restricted website/ips and i can't change somethings in modem.

do you have any idea, what i can change in my pc so it MAY be possible for me to login ?

Thanks..|||The university network most likely blocks port 6112 that is used for bnet connection. Probably nothing you can do about it besides asking network administrator to allow connections on that port.|||I guess a firewall is blocking outgoing traffic to that port or to that IP address.

Try this in a dos box:

telnet europe.battle.net 6112

If you get a black window and/or a "connection closed by foreign host", but no timeout or error, it's something with the game, but if it's an error or timeout, something is blocking access.|||telnet europe.battle.net 4000

BTW, if it says that the program doesn't exist, you will have to activate it through control panel / programs. Click on "Activate windows functions" and activate the telnet client checkbox.|||i would be one bad administrator if students are allowed to install extra programs :) its most likely that either the firewall is blocking 6112 or you are behind a proxy server... (this last part is the most likely part) both are nothing you can do about i am affraid!

How long does it take to complete the set and uniques grail?

1 year? 2 year? 20 years?|||It depends on how intensely you are MFing, but if you play let's say 1-2 hours every 1-2 days, in a relaxed manner, it's maybe 5-10 years. I found all set items at least twice since I started playing in 2002 or so while I still haven't found about 3 of the most rare uniques yet.|||Thanks, krischan.

It's actually 60 seconds and once the game is older than 5 minutes, it will persist for another 5 minutes if nobody is in. Games which are 1-5 minutes old will vanish immediately when empty.|||People never read the book did they?

Which char to make, based on a class-specific set!

Yeah as topic says. Back in the days I had a IK-barb which worked out kind of great in hell actually. First of all, I know there are better items and so on. I just find it interesting to make a char based on one of the class-specific sets. I.E Mavina's, Natalya's and so on.

So the question is, which of these sets in combination with what specc are really useable in hell? I want to be able to explore the game, like doing all quests, getting all WP's. I want to run The Pit like, alot. And preferably be able to solo Baal?

Was thinking of either a WW Natalya's Assassin. A strafezon with Mavina's. IK-barb. (Though I rasther skip this one since I already tried it once) Ofc a Tal sorc.

What speccs would be viable in hell with Aldur's och Trang-Oul's?

hello every one i just wanna know from other battlenet players since i dont have any friend who plays D2 and just bought a maybe legit key from gamezmarket...ok i get to the point...

started a char,experienced big lags,eventualy got dropped, tried to create new game and i dint make it, after i have deleted bnet registry entry i was able to make games but still with annoying and big enough lag for any hardcore char... ie skeles was swinging half screen away from target sometimes, char swing have a small but still very important latency and i was playing alone with a necro and 2 skelies. since starcraft warcraft and D1 works perfect with no lags i need to know if other ppl are having big enough lags to prevent them from going hardcore and since i used to play a lot of single player i cant used to it.. its just no fun for me even for a regular character..i play on europe, if possibly anyone knows any issue about non blizzard official cd key providers (such as login in diffrent time zones) pls let me know..thanks for reading

Well i actualy forgot to mention that i have typed the /fps command and nothing shows up on screen but it could be cause i typed it in town or blood moor and needed sometime fisrt to become the game permament for allowing commands? only the /help works... whatever i think im loosing faith..though many thanks to you for help|||/fps will work during gameplay and will look like this

Iron golems questions

hello i have some good questions about iron golems in v1.13c

1.open wounds uses the golems skill lvl for the actual dmg or the chars?

2.IAS works on them for sure? also base item weapon speed dont seem to apply to them...

3.what are the actual properties golems gain from being created by etherals except for the base item bonus in defence or dmg? do the gain 50% physical reduction like ghostly champions?

4.the have a small built in dmg this dmg is added to the weapon from you created the golem or is only for armor created golems?(hope doesent sounds nerdy this one)

5.Any trick for saving a good golem between games in mp?

6.lets all post and share some suggestions about irons (ie runewords or anything related to their uses)

cheers|||I bet some of us don't wanna spread misinformation, especially since as you state "nobody use them anymore". It only takes the first couple of times that you lose your Iron Golem to lag or some such, and lost the nice unique/runeword you made him from, before you give up and decide to use 1pt Clay Golems like everyone else >.>

So maybe no one is answering because they honestly aren't sure. If I was a betting man tho, I would say that 3) is "No way". Ethereal should grant nothing more to your Golem than a transparency, and at the most a little added Defense if the eth item was an armor. I highly doubt it grants a bonus like Ghostly Champions...

I could take a complete guess and say yes, on 4) If you make it from a weapon with +dmg, that stat should carry over to your Golem.



As for 5) if there was any real trick that guaranteed your Golem would never ever disappear, then you would see way more Necromancers using them |||The general principle is that the golem "equips" the item it�s made from, but I do not think increased attack speed helps them.

4. The bonus damage is added in either case, I think. Isn�t there also a synergy with Fire Golem that improves this bonus damage?



I haven�t had an IG disappear for me, but they often get killed. For me, the selling point about IG is their Thorns ability, that coupled with Amp can return some serious damage. Every now and then when I meet a stubborn boss, I make one with Open Wounds (Steel or Malice runewords) or from a weapon with poison damage. Otherwise, I usually buy cheap daggers and throwing daggers (because they only take up 2 spaces) in bulk and drop them from inventory if I need to recast the golem.|||1. Your character's.

2. Works very minimally last I heard from RTB. Since they have a 17 frame delay between each attack anyways, speeding up their attack speed by 1 fpa or so does nothing much.

3. No. All they get is increased damage if it's a weapon, increased defence if it's a piece of armor.

5. Your character needs 'Enigma'. 20 Golem Mastery and 6 BO 'Call to Arms' goes a long way.

Yeah i did some malice and steel so far and was OK in normal not speeding your kill time much but its ok also for decrypfyed bosses that are not having very powerful mods at any diff...but bassed on my build il stick all the time with clay or even blood..i play hc so far lvl41 with a mellee build and i rely first to dim vision especialy in nightmare then to max resistances and then to bone armor for avoid stun-stun lock (got 0%fhr) using gleglaws(?) set so far and works great but i have no lifestal... and here comes blood golem now that sharing life removed and coupled with a blessed aim merc it can preserve his and mine life or even recover me the little health i lost from elemental dmg and thus i want waste a rejun potion.they are just great with that 1 point i haved put so far!

clays are more sturdy though and in tough bosspacs in hell they will save my life castin one of them in the face of the boss and slow him (And bellieve me only the boss can kill me if i dint watch his mods) while minions are dimmed and thus making a controlled mini boss fight...

i dont have an insight polearm for my merc so far why gave one to the clunk-

kan? i know the aura is good but so far i wasted 2 amns 2 pA for socketing getting in both cases 1..he is ok with his woestave(?)

Now a useful ig for my build is hard to find.. even some cheap uniques with crushing blow and resistances...survival comes first and clays are just fine

But i will do a check for ethereal created ones just to conviece myself that it wont have reduction to physical and yes they are consider nearly junks for me...

they got poison immune, 50 build in lightining res though and with a gemed shield can go elementaly immune..(and to do or pretend what?)

yep thats really nice, but better for a poison necro that he is also wealthy plus he must have enigma (which i personaly hate) to preserve golems life...|||You can also make a really cheap undead basher golem out from a battle hammer or any one hand high dmg mace with 4-5 os filled with 'elds' for about 350-400% more dmg...but who keeps 'elds' in stash..|||Quote:

What do you mean by this? "must have"?

If the golem is about to die, why can�t you

- take a portal to town to heal him

- use Teleport charges from staff/amulet/circlet

- touch a Well to heal him (if one is nearby)

Grand Charms

not exactly a newcomer, but a question nonetheless (not knowing where to post elsewhere):

i'm running nihlatak with my summoner, doing full clears in halls of pain, and i'm finding a big load of crappy grand charms. Should these be kept for rerolling purposes? I mean, i believe halls of pain is a level 84 area, most charms i'm finding would have 84 as an itemlevel too; but they are not baal/dia/nihla gc's, and they are neither midlevel gc's strictly for skiller rolling.

Is there any purpose for these things? I could fill a mule or two a day with what I'm finding now.|||sell them to charsi

keep only the nih/dia/baal ones for rerolling skill with 40+life

there are better ones for rolling skillers

Ps. I love your avatar |||There is nothing like a TC87 charm. Only armors and weapons are in what's commonly called TC87 (which is a simplification BTW). GCs are in a different TC, one which is available even at the lowliest places of the game. You probably mean GCs with an item level of 91 or higher, called Baal GCs (even though it also includes GCs from Nihlathak and Diablo).

As soon as you have a GC like that, use that one for rerolling. If you roll up anything with 41 or more life, it's a proof that it really is a Baal GC (which increases their sale value, in case you have too many of them), so continue with rerolling others if you have them.|||okay lol what I meant with tc87 was Ilv87 xD|||You actually need an ilvl of 91 or higher for the 41+ life affix . Whatever, that's close to nitpicking, as we agree that only Diablo, Nihlathak and Baal can produce these GCs.|||Also it's not really that hard to get one, in ladder they're pretty cheap and in sp you just run them couple of hours.



The hard part is to preserve your sanity while spending +1000 pgms in rerolling them.

Made a GriefPB for my Fury/Rabies wolf and got a decent roll. Now what's bugging me is whether the Venom affects my Rabies skill? Got a little confused with the whole 0.4 sec cap. Is that only for poison dmg from items or skills too, like rabies?

In either case the weapon is just . I'm starting to love runewords more and more.|||Venom's 0.4 second (10 frame) poison length only overrides the poison lengths of items. However, it's a separate and therefore competing source of poison to Rabies, so when you bite the first target either Venom or Rabies poison damage and length will be applied, not both (although Rabies will spread and apply its poison damage and length to other targets as usual).

Most likely Venom will have the highest damage rate (poison damage per frame or second) and be applied to targets instead of Rabies. However, once Venom's length expires Rabies can be applied by the contagion (Rabies spreads by periodically firing invisible missiles in random directions, some of which hit the host) and apply its poison damage for its remaining length.

Evil Forces

now before some one says look in another tread i've been looking for a bout a month on this site along before i join up so here is the question: in the durance of hate is it possible to kill an evil force and whats the reward and all so what does the different colors of diablo mean? Just got back to nightmare diablo and he's light green with dark green eyes instead of red. i did play all the time let some one borrow the game like 4 yrs ago and just now getting it back.i have what i think you call a ultimate necro or melee not sure have all the skills but i mostly attack instead of standing back and watching my mages ,golems, and spells do the work

Slow effects override each other?

Im preety much sure about it but its better to have a confirmation and let others know also...heres a real example:

I was soloing diablo in normal with my necro and haved lots of slow effects to make sure he would not annoy me,nuke my minions and use lightining on me..

heres all the slow effects i was having:

1.25% from gleglaws set

2.49% from my clay

3.50% from my merc with woestave halberd

decrypfy also...

And what hapend?While i was slashing him preety fast he suddenly used his lightining atack on me and i was saved thanks to full rejs and then blasted my minions and merc to pieces...finnaly i decided to finish him and casted my clay again on him and as i was running to him i wached that he was crawling by the golems slow effect coupled with decrypfy...no powerfull attacks of any kind,i wached for about a min that while i reacasted only once the golem..and when rushed to finish him the gleglaws seemed to override the golems slow? and nuked once again before he died...

On another run shortly after i used ony mercs Woestave and an iron golem but not gleglaws with gloves,and none of my minions health bar ever turned yellow and none of skellies died, as for me i wasnt even need to recast my low lvl bone armor...!he was just crawling

So is that a rule? Or got ai lucky?each slow effect overrides the previews ones even if it has least percentage? and also works the same for partys?

If so my conclusion is that since mercs dmg is reduced to nearly nothing in hell and they die easily a woestave can be the best weapon of choice?(And thus saving points from clay to go elsewhere)provided that the slow effect is not redused also..

And if not too much accurate all those ppl haved posted there it came from my experience that better to have one good slow effect than many lesser ones from diffrent sources and one good is just enough in boss cases as you can invest to your killing speed more...

Need some help dealing with PIs

Yes i need a good suggestion dealing with physical immunities based on my build:lvl 60 melee necro

Im reaching HC hell soon and so far i did well staying alive and also killing fast..

im planning to run the countess a couple of times by the time i set foot on hell

to farm some mid level runes but the tower is full of nasty PI ghost boss packs

and i will have much trouble dealing with them (especialy if they lurking on entry point..!) sinse amp dmg will not break the PI to a desirable lvl for dealing fast with them and my merc is an act2 blessed aim im about to choose between a single point to fire golem and use it like a bomb by recasting it on them (while drinking manapots like water)or invest to bone spear (since i have almost maxed bwall and bprison for a high hp barmor) which is also mana intesive and i only got 180 so far and few gear to boost it up without sacrificing other mods...

with 5 points to bone spear and synergies on switch i can reach between 10-12 bone spear easily with 41 points in synergies and im asking any veteran bonemancer if it will be damaging enough and eventualy if worth puting points since is temting me with the 2 synergies maxed...

CE is my only weapon so far against them but i have to bring down one first..

And im not planning to dim them and past them only for having my flanks full of mosters..!Thanks for any suggestions..keep me alive|||Decrepify? Merc? Well decrepify wont break the immunitys wich amp cant and a real example in nightmare was Talic(?) with stone skin which i could not break the immune to physical even with amp forced me to start a new game under much furstration (I was thinking to stay and let him kill me and punish me for not taking into account PIs so far) No need to mention that even if you break an immunity with a curse will work in half effectivenes? like bringing and 120 PR to 70 with amp... if you meant for the slow effect to avoid the danger i got lvl17 dim vision so it will work better...

Im very dependend to my merc since i need tons of ar and an act 3 merc will bring me trouble..my merc is using an "Honor" partisan and curetly i dont think any elemental dmg from weapons like 1-180 lighting will help against tons of hps and much even worse from charms..though i really gonna check arreat summit for the lightsabre...

What do you skills look like now? you might not need to respec, maybe just pumping mages from now on would do the trick (IF that is the way you want to go).|||I suggest a rogue merc with either a big damage bow (which converts a large percentage to fire/cold) or a Witchwild String (deals a good amount of Magic damage). Use the fire golem as tank and AI curses for extra help if the golem can�t tank well enough. And when you have a corpse, use Lower Resist and CE.

Im on my way to start looking for good bows to save and have a test with the roque and if i can stuff my gear with bonus to AR and be able to hit 80% of time i will consider to stick with the chick in hell.. And as i was remember back in sp her ai is ok if u dont rush deep into mobs and stay still or away,which can work well with dimmed-ai cursed enemies..nvm about bone spear i will have a test with the most +skills i can get though i really think the rougue will do better..gonna check the actual dmg she convert to fire-cold in high lvls, hope will do for me..nice one mate

The nice things of my fishy?

-Surviving (I never die lol). Even when I ditch my smoke runeword for a topazed armor, I'll probably be able to gather up enough resists and keep surviving

-corpse explosion clears out crowds super super fast

-no worries about immunities

Bad?

-Running -__- I usually only run mephy/pindle/eldritch/pits because it takes too long to do stuff anywhere else

-slow boss kills -__- Even when I found that snazzy eth 4os CV, it still takes a good minute or two to kill mephy, and baal can seriously be hell to kill.

So my fishy obviously has some good MF, good survivability. But he is slow to kill shiz.

I'm considering making a hammerdin. I can definitely use a lot of my current necro gear and get some more hammerdin gear as well.

Hammerdin would probably improve on:

-killing speed for bosses

-running (vigor)

but may be worse on

-clearing stuff (hammers vs. CE)

-survivability?....maybe

Again, he still needs to run around though.

So maybe I should make a sorc.

Issues are that a lot less of my gear would work for a sorc IMO, and she doesn't survive well at all. Teleport is huge though, she could actually run countess/andy, find and kill meph faster. Still, idk if she can kill baal/diablo.

Any recommendations on what to do? I feel like making a sorc will get the best results, but maybe I should stick with my fishy?

I'm basically trying to save up for an engima. Once I get enigma, fishy/hammerdin will definitely be the best options.|||The problem with eth CV insight is that it's a slow weapon which has no CB and has low ED. I would use Obedience in an eth CA or Thresher which gives 370 ed and 40%Crushing blow.

And a better armor for your merc would be duress which also adds CB.

You havn't mentioned how many skellies you got- buffing them up abit will hasten runs and boss killing aswell. Clay Golem is great for slowing down act bosses u almost have no need for decrepify, only for a few clay golem hits at act bosses.

My fishymancer can kill hell Diablo under 30secs, Baal in1min(usually), havn't run Mephisto in ages, i still need that Enigma .

Hammerdin's gear will be much more expensive and as u mentioned the survivability could become an issue. On the other hand hammer dmg is awesome, which helps you to do runs with 4-5 or even more ppl in game, therefore increasing the chances of dropping more items(runes :)) , necro's CE will lose effectivness in higher players limits that's one of the biggest pros for Hammerdin and a biggest con for a Fishymancer.

A Sorc is always nice, it just depends where you like to mf, i think a Blizz sorceress is the most economical build when starting out.

She can do AT, Pindle, Mephi, Andy( i thiink) these are pretty good places for finding early ladder wealth.

A Fishymancer is just a good all round MF'er who doesn't need expensive gear, but with enigma he really starts to step on the toes of sorceresses and hammerdins aswell. Personally i prefer Fishy. Hammerdins are for lamers who like the most overused build in the game and who of us hasn't played a sorceress who MF's .|||I have 12 skellies, level 30 or so Raise Skeleton/Skeleton Mastery.

I probably should get crushing blow. I love insight for the infinite CE though, and later with engima, the infinite tele. I suppose I would have to just use Duress, maybe with guillames. Leech then becomes an issue but I could always throw a life tap out too. Meph drops really quick actually. i'll probably try chaos runs again, but last time I did it my merc died a couple times.

I suppose if I had to, I'd make a sorc. Will start looking for gear while I make stuff I guess.

Or I could just save up for an enigma. I think I'm getting closer in terms of runes...|||I would also max bone spear(helps abit with bosses and strong stone skin monsters) and put 1 point in every synergy of the bone armor(don't max bone armor), rest into bone spirit.

The only curses that i use besides amp are: Attract(for ranged attackers), decrepify and confuse(these may come handy, when u get stormed, by some random mob).

I dont really need the Dim Vision anymore-mb ocassionaly at WSK, but i don't run that place any longer.|||Update: A few very nice finds, rune flipping, I am a proud owner of an enigma mage plate

Damn it's nice being able to run everything fast. I managed to find resists in some rings/gloves/charms, and it feels good to blitz everywhere. I think I'll stick with my fishy, as CE reallyl clears out CS/Pits/WK, and kills mephy fast, Diablo fast enough. Baal still takes forever though. I do have a HoZ sitting around, and with arachs/enigma/shako I could make a hammerdin I guess, but maybe not yet.

I only have 1 respec left (tried out explosiomencer, bit eh). Idk about maxing bone spear since I feel like the damage is still going to be pretty weak without the synergies. Though I guess there really isn't much else to put points into.|||Well congratz, i'm slowly working towards my eni aswell about halfway there.

As for your merc's helm Andy Face is the top choice- LL STR bonus IAS, can't get much better than that, socket with somethin decent, either an ed or ias jool and voila.

Btw how is the survival while porting around, you don't feel the temptation to go for max block?|||A summon necro's mana consumption isn't so high that it can't be solved with potions, so if you mainly make boss kills, you could equip your merc with an eth, upgraded Kelpie Snare, with an Amn rune. Crushing blow would be useful on your merc as well, e.g. from Guillaume's. Good mods on armor are res, IAS, fhr and %def. Griswold's with IAS jewels, Treachery or (if you want to spend that much) Fortitude or CoH come so my mind.

You can also get CB from revived Urdars and the like (found in the River of Flame and Durance 2, for example).

However, act boss runs are a waste of time if your character cannot teleport. Better do them with a sorc, she reaches Meph and Andy in 10 seconds - 1 minute (depends on dungeon layout) and even with less than perfect gear (let's say Tal's set+Spirit+Magefists, but no skillers or torch), a meteorb sorc needs a dozen meteors to kill Meph and 8 fireballs for Andy.

An alternative would be Obedience with Andy's visage (+Ral rune... fire is one of the typical merc killing effects) and one of the armors mentioned above. You just need 1-3 corpses, to be blown up with corpse explosion. Infinity might be nice as well (but expensive), its aura increases fire damage of CE and it helps your minions to hit the enemies.|||I would say diablo is still worth running because CS is a lvl 85 area, where every item can drop and it's full of lots of monsters and bosspacks. The only thing that sucks, is gettin through the narrow spaces, before the entrance to CS.



Mephisto and Andy a waste of time without tele. I guess you can say the same for Baal, even though WSK and throne of destruction are lvl 85 area's they don't spawn nearly enough monsters to be worth running without tele, plus PI Hell temptresses will slow you down cosiderably. And there are much better builds for running and killing Baal effectively IMO.|||Right now my MF run is pindle, eldritch/shenk, pits, countess, andy, meph, diablo/CS with my engima. Killing is quick, and both meph and diablo fall nice and quick.

Baal takes a whileee though so I don't really run him. Is it worth swapping my eth CV Insight for an obedience or something to run baal?|||I would swap Insight for obedince any day becasue of the CB. If u miss the mana from insight, u can use silkweave boots or frostburn to help u spam CE.

As for the best merc polearm for skelliemacer as krischan already pointed out is infinity, gl finding the runes though.

You will need to use the rare upgrade recipes for that (Ko+Pul+PAmethyst):

Upgrade enique items - list of new requirements

I want to upgrade some unique weapons in the cube and I have all runes and gems.

But before I upgrade them I want to knew the new level requirements, strenth and dex requirements.

Where can I find this? there must be a page that shows it

For example I have skulders ire armor and a vile tusk sword|||Take the highest of the old req, the req of the new base item and the req of what it's socketed with. Then add 5 if upgraded from normal to exceptional, 7 if upped from exceptional to elite or 12 if upped twice.

Upped Skullder's will have the level req of a balrog skin + 7. With Vile Husk it's similar.|||Thank you

Last time i did it with Yari, it became a ghost spear which requires 160+ dex, makes it impossible to use by my merc, so it wasted my runes and a -15 ***

so what do I do with my 40+ perfect gems?

My gem mule is full. Lots of green, purple, blue, red, and a few Diamonds. I've collected and cubed-up and now I have no idea why I'm saving them. I keep several Topaz on another char because I know what they're for -- great MF when I find the right 4-socket armor and maybe a 3-socket helm.

I'd post in the trade forum, but I'm not sure what I'd be trading FOR, exactly. Armor with 700+ or 800+ defense? I have 3 chars in the 56-70 range, but no armor better than about 420 so far.

Thanks for any good ideas.|||You can buy nearly anything for perfect gems, they are currency items.

Regarding the question of what to buy, that depends a lot of the type and specialization of your characters. Don't spend anything for some armor just because it has a defense of 800! With 40 pgems you can do better than wear a ptopazed armor and helm. For example, Get a Tarnhelm with 45+% MF and add a ptopaz, then buy a Wealth armor or the runews to make that runeword).

You can also save them up until you have enough for something good. Don't hesitate to have a few mules full of pgems, it's no problem to get them sold, even great numbers of them. Alternatively you can sell them for runes, but medium and high runes slowly lose value, so I wouldn't do it if you don't intend to do something with the runes quickly.|||Or do what I prefer to do: reroll Baal charms. I rolled a life skiller last night with ~25 pgms. But then again it's all about luck, you would probably use them all and get nothing from it|||As soon as you have a certain amount of wealth, you might become too lazy to bother with muling pgems back and forth and use them on Baal GCs, but that's certainly not the case at the point where you consider to use a ptopazed helm and armor for MF. My personal rule of thumb is that if my characters are good enough to find GCs from hell Baal/Diablo/Nihlathak GCs, then I'm wealthy enough to use my gems on rerolling them.|||Thanks for the advice. Rerolling charms... sounds like a great idea! They aren't guaranteed to become *better* though, are they? In fact, they can get worse.

Example: Took a GC with +7 life and resL +24% and cubed it with 3 pGems, got resL +24% without the +7 life. Tried the same GC again and got Adds 1-16 Lightning damage, no life, no resist. At least I cleared up some stash space on the mule. :)

As Krischan suggests, I'll try this again when (if) I get a char far enough into Hell mode to see Baal/Diablo/Nihlathak.|||You can trade 40 pgems for 1 HR on NL.

A handful of pgems can get you a Vipermagi|||Roll 4X life skillers with them or trade thems against runes.|||Rolling sc's can be a good idea aswell, u never know when u will roll that 20life/5@sc which goes for a ridicioulus amount of Ber runes. |||All SCs worth mentioning can drop nearly everywhere in hell mode or even earlier, so it will need less time and resources to find one than finding 9 flawless gems.|||i would suggest you gather a whole char of gems like 140+, those rich and lazy people will love you with their HeaRt

Chat Bubbles on players

I've never learned how some folks can create a "Chat Bubble" over their Charactor. Is this a hack, or supported in pure play - and if so, how is it done?|||Type !yourtexthere in chat.|||My personal favorite is spamming "!I feel much stronger now" whenever I level at a baal run.|||After seeing this done in someone's avatar here.....I like to stand next to the wounded guy near Malah and say "!get a job".|||I spam "!Get some!" When I charge on a pack of monsters with my frenzy barb.

so you get a big block of text over your head during baal runs|||But i realise this "!..." sometimes disappears very fast, not sure what is causing this|||It's the length of your message|||its also displayed for a number of frames

sp is 25 fps, will stay up for a long time

if your above 60fps it wont last too long

if vsync is enabled (through drivers or glide wrapper) it will stay up long enough to read it

a full text box will last quite some time|||Back when I was playing, I would stand by one of the pillars on a Baal run with my Sorceress, so that the body of my character would be hidden by the pillar, then say "!Beware talking pillars"
