Noob Assassin, in great need of build advice

Hi there.

So I havent actually played Diablo II for about 8 years now...

But for some reason (maybe the cold winter weather..) I've gotten a sudden urge to start again.

Therefor I've just created an assassin, a character i have never played before.

I've been reading up on the forum on assassin builds, and most of them seem to function around kicks and lightning traps, witch Im not too much into.

So I have been playing around with the assassin skill tree and come up with 2 builds I would like am opinion on from some of you more experienced players.

First one is a close combat oriented build with dual claws, and I was planning on placing the skills as following:

Tiger Strike, 20.

Dragon Claw, 20.

Claw Mastery, 20.

Weapon Block, 1-5.

Burst of Speed, 1-5.

Shadow Warrior, 1.

Shadow Master, 15-20.

Second build is sort of a trapper with claw/shield, and I was planning on placing the skills as following:

Claw Mastery, 20.

Weapon Block, 1.

Shadow Warrior, 1.

Shadow Master, 20.

Burst of Speed, 1-5.

Fade, 1.

Venom, 20.

Psychic Hammer, 1.

Cloak of Shadows, 1.

Mind Blast, 1-5.

Blade Sentinel, 1.

Blade of Fury, 1 (main skill).

The first build i fairly simple: trying to chop things up in close combat, though im not sure how well dual claws and dragon strike will work with a charge up skill like Tiger Strike..?? maybe Tiger Strike should be exchanged for Venom..

In the second build I was trying to utelize the Blades of Fury skill, and since the skill itself doesnt do very much damage itself, even at high levels, but gets its damage from the weapon the assassin is using, I thought I would try and max out Venom and Claw Mastery.

As I said, I havent played for a while and IM starting from scratch, and I dont really think these 2 build need any special equipment to work, I thought they would be good to start out with.

But I really need all the inputs, critic, flames, ideas, changes you guys can come up with.

Thanks in advance!|||I must admit that I have never played a physical damage dual claw assassin, so I havent tried Dragon Claw. Looks like a doable build, but you list no Cloak of Shadows or Mind Blast. I think thats well worth the 3 skill points investment. Shadow and merc can protect you, but sometimes you need more than that when the game gets tough.

Second build looks fine. Blade Fury is a cool and useful skill. The maxed Claw Mastery wont do that much for added damage, but it will make you hit much better with Blade Fury, as long as you use a claw. And if you are going to use Venom, you damn well need to be good at hitting things.

I recommed the runeword 'Strength' in a claw for the act boss fights, as the Crushing Blow will help a lot.

You do not have Death Sentry on either build. I think thats a great utility skill in the late game, both for damage (its similar to the Necromancers Corpse Explosion) and for getting rid of corpses. But with luck, you can get that skill on a claw.|||You should check out Chaos, it's a runeword that allows assassins to whirlwind like barbs. Great for melee and dual claws :)

Chaos

3 Socket Claws

Fal + Ohm + Um

9% Chance To Cast Level 11 Frozen Orb On Striking

11% Chance To Cast Level 9 Charged Bolt On Striking

+35% Increased Attack Speed

+290-340% Enhanced Damage (varies)

Adds 216-471 Magic Damage

25% Chance of Open Wounds

+1 To Whirlwind

+10 To Strength

+15 Life After Each Demon Kill|||Getting an Ohm rune to drop can still be a long wait tbh... and not everyone wants to pay between 6-8 ists for such a rune m8 :) Going for Strength in the beginning is a very viable option if you ask me!|||Quote:

yes.this ladder i have very cheap kicksin with final gear including strength :)

not so high cb and no static field, so in general slower than my usual builds but universal, funny and cheap. btw: my merc is also very cheap. rogue with edge and some armor for resi (actually lion heart) and some good helm with ias, skill,ll, min dmg...as for as builds: charge-up builds are funny but it starts be weak on hell because u should charge it and u can use it just one time, so phoenix strike is better in general, also is suit against pi.on the other hand, every build with max shadow master and strong merc needs just cos,mb, ds :) its not easy and cheap to make some really playable bf build.dragon claw is powerfull skill, in accordance with claw mastery has awesome ar.with max venom, master and high cb,ow u can make some corpses and rest is work for death sentry :) assa is usualy strong against groups, but has problems with anci and some strong mele monsters.and weapon block has lower chance to block than maxed shield block but it has a lot of advantages.so try it, if it will be bad and hard, respec on trapassin...|||Can't offer much advice on build, but just wanted to echo your sentiment on playing again after so many years. Never played an assassin but may give it a go with the advice here. Thanks.
