Why is Enigma so crucial to Hammerdins?

The title says it all really. I've been playing a pala recently, making a hammerdin but i don't know if it's worth it, since i'm extremely poor in the game and i keep droppin' mana all the time i don't think it's worth the trouble of getting an enigma. And that's just the armor.

But anyways, is it all that important, or should i use my respec-feature and make an zealer or smiter instead?|||It's convenient, but by no means necessary. The trickiest aspect of playing a hammerdin is placing your character in a spot relative to the monsters where the hammer spiral will hit them. Being able to teleport makes this quite easy. However, a player with a modicum of skill can easily achieve the same end.|||Enigma won't fix your mana troubles. If anything it will make them worse. Equip your merc with an Insight runeword polearm and you should have no further mana troubles. Barring that and counting in your" poorness" there are some great cheap mana boosting weapons and armor you can get. Spirit runeword both in sword and shield will give you about 200 mana and +4 skills. Frostburn gauntlets and Silkweave boots give boosts to your mana pool. Sapphires in your helm and armor work wonders. Heck, even Shako is cheap as he'll these days, running a Pul each. And those are the best hammerdin helm.|||Get insight, mana problems solved. Cheap runes and a noneth elite polearm is easy to find.

Enigma isn't "necessary" but it makes the hammerdin quite possibly the best PvMer out there. He gets places easily, easily targets individual units with hammers, and basically just becomes an efficient killing monster.|||He's also safer with enigma. Running everywhere pretty much eliminates all that wonderful blocking.

I prefer using the Redemption aura for my mana woes so my merc can wield a nasty weapon for baal wave 2 and general buttkicking.|||Thanks for all the replies guys. I'll guess i'll stick with the hammerdin for now. Will get insight for my merc, i have all the ingredients except a sol rune and a 4-socket polearm. What merc should i use btw?

Oh, and i guess ith runes aren't particularly rare, are they? I found three in one night of playing, so i'm at least one step closer to the enigma.|||iths aren't very rare at all.

I personally use an act 1 combat merc (prayer) since it synergizes with meditation. I'd suggest if you don't have enigma to go with holy freeze (act 2 defensive) though. Act 1 defensive (defiance) is also a possibility tho later on with holy shield and max block, you won't be taking much hits anyway.|||You can use items with charges of teleport, like amulets. If you want to fool around and teleport only occasionally, try and find a Spellsteel axe or Naj staff for your switch.
